U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Canton Man and Locates Dead Body in a Home in Columbus

Columbus, OH – This morning, members of the U.S. Marshals led, Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested Darrell Carter Jr., 33 in Canal Winchester, OH. Carter was wanted by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on an assault charge.  

Members of the U.S. Marshals – Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force adopted the fugitive apprehension responsibility for Carter and initiated a fugitive investigation.  Task force members developed information that led them to believe Carter had fled Stark County and was residing in the Columbus, Ohio area. This morning, members of the SOFAST located and arrested Carter at a residence in the 5900 block of Levi Cramer Road, Canal Winchester, Ohio. During the arrest attempt, task force members also located a deceased female in the basement of the residence. The identity of the deceased female is unknown at this time and police are currently investigating the scene and attempting to identify the female.

U.S. Marshal Michael Black stated, “The U.S. Marshals Service in southern Ohio has outstanding relationships with our state and local partners. I am confident that the local authorities will identify the deceased female and conduct a thorough investigation on her death.”

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This fugitive from Stark County thought he could evade arrest by fleeing to the Columbus area, but great investigative work by our task force resulted in his arrest today. Unfortunately, a dead body was located, but our task force and the local police department will work together to uncover the identity of the female.”
