On October 4, a total of 47 ICITAP-trained and supported Patrol Police Officers graduated from the Rivne Patrol Police Academy. The graduating class consisted of two groups: one group (21 cadets) was part of the project for problem-based learning (PBL) and the second group (26 cadets) was the control group. The graduates in the PBL group completed their basic police training course under the first pilot project where the cadets were taught utilizing Problem Base Learning Methodology. The six-month training course was broken into 5 training blocks consisting of several modules covering topics that includes Police State and Society, Responding to non-emergency calls, Road traffic safety, Responding to emergency calls and complex scenario based training in addition to core topics such as law, tactics, firearms, first aid, fitness and defensive driving. All of these courses culminate into testing that combines all of the subject matter into real life scenario-based testing. The PBL training was compared to the traditional police basic training utilized by the control group of the graduating class. The graduation ceremony took place on October 4 and was attended by members of Chief of the Rivne Patrol Police Department and ICITAP staff. ICITAP is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
