Philippines: ICITAP-Trained Officer Presents “Cryptocurrency Fundamentals” from ICITAP’s Blue Book

On October 9, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) reported that its ICITAP-Trained officer made a virtual presentation featuring the “Cryptocurrency Fundamentals” module of the Blue Book developed by ICITAP for the PNP. The second edition of the book which included the cryptocurrency module was published by ICITAP in May 2024. The officer discussed tracing techniques to participants from various PNP units; Cyber Patrolling and Intelligence Unit, Cyber Financial Crime Unit, Women and Children Protection Unit, Cyber Response Unit, Regional Anti-Cybercrime Units, Distinct Anti-Cybercrime Teams, and Provincial Cyber Response Team. The session was conducted at the PNP ACG headquarters in a blended learning format of in-person and virtual participation via Zoom. Additional topics discussed were tracing techniques, request requirements of Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), and case studies involving cryptocurrency-related crimes. ICITAP’s training courses are funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Counterterrorism (CT).
