FBI New Orleans is now accepting nominations for the 2025 FBI Citizens Academy. Citizens Academy is a stimulating six-to-eight-week program that gives business, religious, and community leaders an inside look at the FBI. Participants learn about the operation of FBI field offices and the services the FBI provides to partner law enforcement agencies. The goal of the FBI Citizens Academy is to foster a greater understanding of the role of the FBI in the community through frank discussion and education.

The next FBI New Orleans Citizens Academy class will be held weekly beginning Wednesday, March 12, 2025, through April 16, 2025, with an optional range day and bomb demonstration on Saturday, March 15th. Individuals may nominate themselves, or be nominated by friends, coworkers, Citizens Academy alumni, or current/past FBI employees. Deadline to apply: January 10, 2025.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a recognized business, religious, or community leader.
  • Live and/or work in Louisiana. Sessions will be held at the Headquarters Office on the New Orleans lakefront.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Consent to a limited background investigation, to include fingerprint checks.
  • Agree to attend all sessions, with no more than two excused absences.

To self-nominate or nominate a candidate, complete the nomination form, and provide a narrative stating the reasons for nomination. If you plan to nominate more than one candidate, please provide one form per nominee. The selection process is competitive, and not all nominees will be selected. Selection of the final candidates are determined by the field office.

At the conclusion of the program, graduates are encouraged to join their local FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Chapter. Graduates, while not official spokespersons for the FBI, may be called upon to share their understanding of the role of the FBI.
