Police have arrested a 40-year-old man from St. Stephen, N.B., following a disturbance in the community.
On November 16, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members of the St. Stephen RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance in front of a residence on Rose Street in St. Stephen. A man was reported to have been yelling and uttering threats at a community member, outside the community member’s home.
The man fled the scene before police arrived, however, police were able to quickly identify a suspect. Throughout their investigation, it was learned that the same man had caused similar disturbances involving other members of the community, and on more than one occasion.
On November 19, 2024, police arrested the 40-year-old man without incident in relation to their investigation. He was later released on strict conditions, including not to contact the victims. Police are now investigating if this incident was hate-motivated.
“There is no place for discrimination or hatred in our communities”, says Sgt. Scott Mackenzie of the St. Stephen RCMP. “We understand that incidents such as this are upsetting to members of the public, and we want everyone to know that we are conducting a thorough investigation. We encourage all victims and witnesses to come forward and report any potential hate-motivated crime or incident to your local police.”
