Saskatchewan — Saskatchewan RCMP WEST: male wanted after vehicle theft and flight from police

Source: Royal Canadian Mounted Police

On July 30, 2024 Saskatchewan RCMP Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team (WEST) was in the Ahtahkakoop First Nation area for an unrelated police investigation when they located a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Big River earlier that morning. Two occupants were seen inside the vehicle.

Officers engaged their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting the police vehicle, and headed west on Highway #790. Officers followed, and as the vehicle began to slow down, the driver and the passenger switched places. The truck sped up, and drove off at a high rate of speed towards the Big River area. Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns, but continued to follow in its direction. The vehicle later turned down an unmarked dirt trail.

Officers could not proceed down the dirt trail due to poor road conditions. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remote Piloted Aircraft System was deployed to conduct searches of the area. Officers observed the stolen vehicle travelling towards a wooded area and engaged Big River RCMP to assist with the detachment’s all-terrain vehicles.

As a result of continued investigation, officers located an adult female walking in a nearby field and arrested her at the scene. Officers later located the stolen vehicle abandoned near Whitefish First Nation with considerable damage.
