Investigative Recap
May 6: At approximately 10:50 p.m., Saskatoon RCMP conducted a traffic stop near Kenaston, SK.
Investigation determined an occupant in the vehicle was wanted on warrant by Corrections Services Canada for being unlawfully at large. He also provided a false name to officers.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team (WEST) was engaged to assist. Two adult males were arrested at the scene.
During subsequent investigation, officers located and seized a sawed-off shotgun, a knife, and a baseball bat in the vehicle.
- 32-year-old Keli Stonechild from Regina was arrested on warrant and is charged with one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code and one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration, Section 95(1)(a), Criminal Code.
- 31-year-old Angus Fox from Regina is charged with two counts, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code and one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; Section 88(2), Criminal Code.
Keli Stonechild appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on May 7, 2024.
Angus Fox is set to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 6, 2024.
May 8: At approximately 10:10 p.m., Yorkton RCMP responded to a collision involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Highway #10 and Queen Street in Yorkton, SK.
The pedestrian was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 41-year-old male from Waywayseecappo, Manitoba. His family has been notified.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene.
Yorkton RCMP continues to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
May 9: Battlefords RCMP’s Gang Task Force proactively working to keep weapons, drugs out of the community
May 10: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating suspicious death
May 11: At approximately 12:40 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a serious assault outside of a business on 99 Street in North Battleford.
Investigation determined there was an altercation between two adult males. One of them assaulted the other, who was transported to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.
The suspect fled from the scene in a vehicle. Officers located it soon after and arrested him.
As a result of continuing investigation, 29-year-old Donnie Okanee from Thunderchild First Nation is charged with one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code.
He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 13, 2024.
