Twenty-three-year-old Morgan Runzer is charged with a number of criminal driving offences after she fled from Bonavista RCMP at an attempted traffic stop on April 22, 2024.
Following a report of a prohibited driver in Bonavista, officers conducted a patrol and located the described vehicle driving along Route 230, near Melrose. Police were able to identify the driver as Runzer, a prohibited driver, and attempted to pull the vehicle over. Runzer failed to stop for police and fled at a speed of more than 150 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle. Runzer was later located and arrested at a residence.
She is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Flight from police
- Dangerous operation
- Prohibited operation
- Breach of a probation order
Following a court appearance, Runzer was remanded into custody. She will appear in court again on Friday.
Additionally, Runzer was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for operating an uninsured vehicle and operating an unregistered vehicle. The vehicle, a blue Suzuki Grand Vitara, was located and seized by police as part of this investigation.
Bonavista RCMP asks residents to check for any available dashcam footage capturing the operation of the involved vehicle on April 22, between the hours of 7:00-7:30 p.m. on Route 230 between Melrose and Port Rexton.
