A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to more time in jail following additional charges in connection with multiple incidents in the Sussex area.

In August 2022, a 28-year-old man was charged in connection with multiple incidents in the Sussex area, including aggravated assault and attempted arson.

Thomas Quinn Doiron, from Sussex, appeared in Saint John Provincial Court on August 2 and August 4, 2022, and was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Break and enter
  • Uttering threats
  • Attempted arson
  • Theft under $5000
  • Driving while prohibited

On September 30, 2022, Thomas Quinn Doiron plead guilty to all charges, and was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.

During the course of the ongoing investigation, it was learned that on July 11, 2022, the man had also stolen an excavator and had used it to cause extensive damage to a house and a private property in the Wards Creek area near Sussex, and subsequently stole a firearm from the residence.

In February 2024, additional charges were laid against Thomas Quinn Doiron in Saint John Provincial Court, including:

  • Mischief over $5000
  • Breaking and entering a residence to steal a firearm

On April 4, 2024, Thomas Quinn Doiron plead guilty to all charges, and was subsequently sentenced to an additional two and a half years in prison and a lifetime firearms prohibition.

“In this particular incident, the case was brought to a successful conclusion through diligent police work, including the analysis of DNA found in the excavator that helped positively identify the person responsible for this crime,” says Cst. Rob Driscoll with the Southeast District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.
