The RCMP on PEI is just like any other business or organization when it comes to looking for employees. “While all our frontline policing positions are currently filled, we are planning on hiring more police officers to fill upcoming retirements, promotions, and to fill any new positions that might be created,” says Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Commanding Officer for the RCMP on the Island. “We are always accepting applications for folks who want to go through Depot and become RCMP members, as well as experienced police officers looking to make PEI home,” adds Lewis.

PEI RCMP currently has 143 police officers and over 60 support staff serving the Island. Here’s a listing of the RCMP presence across PEI:

  • West Prince detachment
  • East Prince detachment
  • Stratford detachment
  • Charlottetown – Maypoint detachment (soon to be moving to a new building in Cornwall)
  • Three Rivers detachment
  • Souris detachment
  • Provincial L Division Headquarters in Charlottetown
  • Liaison officers working with Lennox Island and Abegweit First Nations, and
  • A seasonal detachment in Cavendish

Under Contract Policing, a partnership between the Federal Government, Provincial government, and local municipalities, the RCMP has uniformed police officers responding to calls, conducting investigations, and enforcing traffic laws. This activity accounts for the majority of RCMP resources across PEI. Yet there are also specialty resources such as the Major Crime Unit, Provincial General Investigation Section, Child Exploitation Unit, Digital Forensic Services, Police Dog Services, Clandestine Lab services, Forensic Identification Section, Special Tactical Operations Unit, National Sex Offender Registry Co-ordinator, the Provincial Traffic Services Unit, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Operators, Tactical Training Unit, and the Federal Serious and Organized Crime section. Since the PEI RCMP is part of the larger national RCMP organization, we are also able to draw upon our robust specialty services & units, should we require them in PEI. These include Air Services Support, Emergency Response Teams, a Bomb Disposal Unit, Underwater Recovery Teams and more. Check out our CAREERS WEBSITE for more.

As the provincial police force, the RCMP has the largest geographic footprint on the Island, and we work in partnership with the police agencies in Summerside, Kensington and Charlottetown.
