Investigative Recap

February 27: Officers from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team (CRT) were conducting proactive patrols in Meadow Lake. An officer conducted a traffic stop and as a result of investigation, located and seized approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine, 13 pharmaceutical-style pills, a machete and trafficking paraphernalia in the vehicle. A photo of the seized items is attached. The driver was arrested.

As a result of continued investigation, 31-year-old Morgan Dunsmore from Flying Dust First Nation is charged with:
– one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
– one count, possession of the proceeds of crime, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 15, 2024.

February 27: At approximately 1:30 a.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a complaint that an individual was threatened by a firearm on Waterhen Lake First Nation. Investigation determined an altercation occurred between two adult males. One of them threatened the other with a firearm. The victim was able to escape to safety and did not report physical injuries to police.

As a result of continued investigation, Meadow Lake RCMP charged 25-year-old Christopher Ernest from Meadow Lake with pointing a firearm and four other weapons-related offences. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Investigators determined he was also wanted by Correctional Service Canada for breaching his statutory release. Meadow Lake RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team (CRT) began working to locate him.

On March 1, investigation determined Christopher Ernest was in a house in Beauval. CRT officers attended the residence and located and arrested Ernest. They also arrested an adult female who was wanted by Beauval RCMP for theft of a sports utility vehicle in relation to a July 2023 incident.

During subsequent investigation, CRT officers located and seized a loaded firearm, ammunition, approximately 28 grams of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia at the residence.

As a result of subsequent investigation, Christopher Ernest and 25-year-old Gina Roy from Beauval are each charged with:
– one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
– one count, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of a firearm knowingly without a license, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
– one count, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, Section 108(1)(a), Criminal Code;

Christopher Ernest was also charged with:
– three counts, possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;
– two counts, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5), Criminal Code; and
– one count, being unlawfully at large, Section 145(1), Criminal Code.

They were also arrested on their outstanding warrants.

Christopher Ernest and Gina Roy have been remanded into custody until their scheduled appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 4, 2024.

February 29: Wanted male arrested

March 1: At approximately noon, Saskatoon RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway #11 near Hanley, SK. The driver was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. She has been identified as a 32-year-old from Regina. Her family has been notified. Saskatoon RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

March 2 and 3: Much of Saskatchewan experienced heavy snow Saturday into Sunday. Road conditions were poor in much of the province, resulting in significant travel delays – and even road closures in some areas.

From noon on Saturday until Monday morning, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Division Operational Communications Centre received 87 weather-related calls for service (reports of collisions, road hazards or requests for assistance).
