Winter wouldn’t let us off that easily.
Much of the province experienced a wintry blast overnight which has affected driving conditions, particularly in the west-central part of the province. From noon on February 25 to noon on February 26, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Division Operational Communications Centre received 9 weather-related calls for service (reports of motor vehicle collisions and traffic hazards).
Snow is forecasted in different parts of the province in the coming week and Saskatchewan RCMP reminds drivers to take precautions. Always check the weather forecast and road conditions along your route before heading out. For more tips about driving during winter, visit here.

February 22: At approximately 4:15 p.m. Nipawin RCMP were at a local business on 1 Street West in Nipawin following up with a separate investigation when they were advised of an assault that just occurred.
Investigation determined an adult female stole cash from another patron at the business. A bystander stepped in and an altercation occurred. The bystander was assaulted; they did not report injuries to police. The adult female then assaulted an employee of the business. The employee was transported to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.
Nipawin RCMP arrested the adult female at a residence in Nipawin shortly after. As a result of continued investigation, 34-year-old Rykki-Lynn Pluhowy was charged with:
- one count, robbery, Section 344, Criminal Code;
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code; and
- one count, resist peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.
Pluhowy was remanded into custody until her scheduled appearance in Melfort Provincial Court on February 26, 2024.
February 23: At approximately 10:30 p.m., Kindersley RCMP received a report of a collision on Highway #21, north of Kindersley. Investigation determined a car and a semi collided, then a third vehicle collided with them. The driver of the car was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 35-year-old from Drayton Valley, AB. His family has been notified. The drivers of the semi and other vehicle were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. None of the vehicles had passengers. Highway #21 was closed for initial investigation. Kindersley RCMP continues to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
February 23: Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) were conducting proactive patrols in North Battleford. At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on 101 Street. They observed open alcohol in plain sight in the vehicle. The occupants were arrested. Officers located and seized approximately 225 grams of crack cocaine, a sum of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia in the vehicle during subsequent investigation.
As a result of continued investigation, 42-year-old Craig Armstrong from Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nations, 35-year-old Lacey Checkosis from Poundmaker First Nation and 48-year-old Willis Checkosis from Poundmaker First Nation are each charged with one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
They are scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on February 26, 2024.
