Family pays tribute to woman killed in Chigwell collision

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Chigwell. A man has been arrested by officers investigating the incident.

Officers were called at 17:09hrs on Friday, 22 December to Manford Way, Chigwell. A car, believed to be a white Seat Leon, had been in collision with a pedestrian who was walking with two dogs.

Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended. Despite their efforts, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The two dogs were also killed in the collision.

The woman who died has been named as 48-year-old Marie Theobald who lived in Hainault.

In a statement released on Christmas Eve her family said: “Marie was a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece and friend. Marie was an honest, hardworking, selfless woman who would do anything for anyone. Marie always put others first.

“The dogs Riley and Honey were much loved members of the family. They adored Marie as she adored them. May they all rest in perfect peace together.

“The family ask for their privacy to be respected at this time.”

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, and the car was located nearby shortly after the collision. A man was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident and taken into police custody.
