A 28-year-old man from Scotch Ridge, N.B., has been arrested following a traffic stop and a weapon seizure in Moores Mills.

On December 15, 2023, shortly before 9 p.m., members of the West District RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling northbound on Route 3, near Moores Mills. During the stop, police seized a loaded semi-automatic handgun, and the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was arrested.

The man was later released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in court on April 17, 2024, at 9 a.m.

This is the second loaded handgun seized from a vehicle in the St. Stephen area this month.

“The New Brunswick RCMP remains committed to reducing crime in rural areas, and removing unauthorized and illegally possessed firearms from our communities to enhance public safety within our province,” said Sgt. Chris Henderson of the St. George RCMP. “Loaded handguns have no place in vehicles, or in the hands of those who are not authorized to lawfully possess them.”

This matter remains under investigation by the West District RCMP, with assistance from the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.
