On December 8th, 2023, the Inuvik RCMP received a complaint of a disturbance at an apartment building in the Town of Inuvik. While inside the residence, the officers located signs of drug trafficking. The officers arrested the occupants of the apartment. Among those arrested was a 17-year-old youth from Surrey, BC. During a search of the youth incidental to arrest, approximately 40 grams of crack-cocaine was recovered.
A search warrant was applied for and the search resulted in the seizure of just over $41,000 of cash as well as other drug paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking. RCMP have charged five people with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime. The people charged are:
- Olivia Greenland, 28, of Inuvik, NT
- Justin Firth, 35, of Inuvik, NT
- Jesus Villanueva, 18, of Edmonton, AB
- Jai Nayyar, 19, St. Catherines, ON
- Youth, 17, Surrey, BC
“The hard work of our Inuvik police officers has resulted in a significant disruption to the local drug trade and the results speak for themselves”, states Staff Sergeant Jesse Aubin, Detachment Commander of the Inuvik RCMP.
