Riverview  — 27-year-old man sentenced in connection with sexual assault

A 27-year-old man from India, who has been residing in Moncton, N.B., has been sentenced in connection with a sexual assault in the community.

On May 27, 2021, the Codiac Regional RCMP received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted by a cab driver while she was on her way home from downtown.

On June 1, 2021, police arrested a then 24-year-old man in the Moncton area, in connection with the investigation. The man was subsequently released to attend court at a later date.

On March 3, 2022, Rohan Singh appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with sexual assault.

On October 12, 2023, Rohan Singh was found guilty of sexual assault, and on December 15, he was sentenced to three years in prison.

The RCMP takes all reports of sexual assault seriously, and investigates each report thoroughly.

“We want people to know that a sexual assault complaint can be made at any time, and there is no statute of limitations as to how far back the assault happened,” says Sgt. Sylvette Hebert of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “If you are a victim of sexual assault, please contact us. You will be listened to, and you will be believed.”
