The RCMP is encouraging anyone who suspects their drink has been tampered to contact police.

As the holiday season approaches, the New Brunswick RCMP is urging people to stay safe while enjoying parties and social events by being aware of your surroundings and staying with friends, as it only takes a moment for drugs to be put in a drink. If you find that you are unusually unwell after a drink, find a friend, and call police. This could help keep yourself and others safe from further harm. If you witness a substance being poured into a drink, call police immediately. “We also want people to know that a sexual assault complaint can be made at any time, and there is no statute of limitations as to how far back the assault happened, says Cpl. Hans Ouellette, Media Relations Officer with the New Brunswick RCMP. “If you are a victim of sexual assault please contact us. You will be listened to, and you will be believed.”

Follow these tips to drink safely this holiday season:

• While out with friends, stay together

• Don’t accept drinks from strangers

• Never leave your drink unattended

• Watch for changes in your drink

• Don’t drink from other people’s glasses

• Have a plan for getting home

The New Brunswick RCMP urges anyone who witnesses or suspects a drink being tampered with to contact their local detachment. If you suspect that you have experienced being drugged through drink tampering, or have been a sexually assaulted, please call police to file a report. You will be believed and your information may be vital to linking with other files. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the secure P3 Mobile App or by accessing the Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
