A 28-year-old man from Greenfield, N.B, has been arrested following an assault on police officers in the community.

On December 6, 2023, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the Western Valley Region RCMP received a notification that an individual was breaching the conditions of his release by tampering with an ankle monitoring device. Members attended the individual’s residence and attempted to arrest him after seeing that he had removed his ankle monitor. He immediately resisted the two officers, and punched one of them in the face before attempting to flee.

Officers were able to catch up to the man and place him under arrest. While being placed in the back of the police vehicle, the man began to resist again, kicking both officers and taking off on foot. Police were able to apprehend the man a second time, without further incident.

On December 7, Dustin Hawksley appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court by way of tele-remand, and was charged with:

  • Two counts of resisting a peace officer
  • Assault on a police officer
  • Escaping lawful custody
  • Breaching the conditions of a release order

He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear in court on December 14 for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
