Whitehorse — Bobby Ward arrested in Whitehorse for possession of restricted firearm, assaulting police and other offences

Whitehorse RCMP arrested Bobby Ward on December 7, 2023, at approximately 5:25pm in the Range Road area of Whitehorse.

Police were first called to an intoxicated person near Prospector Road, off the Alaska Highway, and received a second report of an individual staggering down the Alaska Highway just north of Prospector Road. A police officer attended and located the individual, identified as Bobby Ward. Police were aware that Mr. Ward had been released from custody days prior from his previous September 2023 charges related to a significant number of property crimes in the Whitehorse area. Mr. Ward was arrested for failing to comply with his court-ordered conditions, upon it is alleged that he assaulted the police officer and fled the area on foot into the bush

General duty officers as well as members from Yukon RCMP Traffic Services and Yukon RCMP Police Dog Services contained the area in an attempt to locate Mr. Ward. He was located at 5:25 pm near the McIntyre Creek pumphouse and arrested without incident. It is alleged that during this interaction Mr Ward was in possession of a restricted firearm.

Bobby Ward (age 40) of Whitehorse, appeared at Whitehorse Territorial Court on December 8, 2023. He is charged with the following offences:

  • One count, Assaulting a peace officer, Section 270(1)(a);
  • One count, Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • One count, Carrying a concealed weapon, Section 90, Criminal Code;
  • One count, Unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
  • One count, Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;
  • One count, Obstruction of a peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
  • Two counts, Breach of probation, Section 733(1)(1), Criminal Code;
  • One count, Tampering with serial number, Section 108(1), Criminal Code.

The subject nor the police officer were assessed and did not report any serious injuries related to this incident.
