Fort McMurray — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates homicide in Fort McKay – Update 4

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the Dec. 5, 2023, homicide of 60-year-old Fort McKay resident Russell John Shott.

As the result of continued investigation, an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Anton Grandjambe has been issued. Anton has been charged with:

  • Second-degree murder

RCMP are asking for public assistance in locating Anton Grandjambe.

Anton Grandjambe is described as:

  • Medium complexion
  • 5 feet 9 inches tall
  • 163 pounds
  • Black hair
  • Brown eyes

RCMP continue the search for 21-year-old Anton Grandjambe who is believed to be armed and dangerous. If seen, Do Not Approach, please call 911 or your local police agency.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates homicide in Fort McKay – Update 3

On Dec. 5, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP received a report of a firearms complaint to Target Road in Fort McKay.

Upon arrival, RCMP located a 60-year-old Fort McKay resident with life-threatening inquires. A short time later, the male succumbed to his injuries. RCMP are treating the death as a homicide, and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been deployed and has taken over the investigation.

A second individual was reported to have injuries, which were unrelated to this incident. There is no information to suggest there is a risk to the general public at this time.

RCMP continue the search for 21-year-old Anton Grandjambe.

Wood Buffalo RCMP advise residents to shelter in place – Update 2

Wood Buffalo RCMP update that the shelter in place for Fort McKay has now ended. Areas within the community remain blocked off, and there will be a heavy police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

Wood Buffalo RCMP advise that they are on scene at a residence in Fort McKay on Target Road. RCMP advise that they are actively looking for 21-year-old Fort McKay resident, Anton Grandjambe.

Anton Grandjambe is described as:

  • 5 feet 9 inches tall
  • Black hair
  • Brown eyes
  • 163 pounds

RCMP advise that Anton Grandjambe is armed and are to remain in a shelter in place.

Action to take:

  • If you are in Fort McKay, immediately shelter in place
  • Stay inside, lock doors and windows
  • Do not report on police locations
  • If you are not in this area, stay away
  • Do not approach this subject

Wood Buffalo RCMP issue shelter in place

Wood Buffalo RCMP are currently on scene investigating a firearms complaint in Fort McKay on Target Road. People in the area are asked to remain in their homes and away from windows. There will be a heavy police presence, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area while RCMP responds.

We ask that photos of responding officers not be placed on social media until after the incident is over.

A release will be sent out once the area has been deemed safe for the public.
