Riverview — 75-year-old man sentenced in connection with investigation into child pornography

A 75-year-old man from Riverview, N.B., has been sentenced in connection with an investigation into child pornography.

The investigation began in March 2021, as part of a proactive investigation by the RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

On June 22, 2021, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Riverview as part of the ongoing investigation. A then 73-year-old man was arrested at the scene and police seized several electronic devices. He was later released from custody on conditions, and was scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

On April 7, 2022, Terrance Steeves was charged in Moncton Provincial Court with possession of child pornography, and making available child pornography. On August 21, Terrance Steeves plead guilty to both charges.

On November 24, Terrance Steeves was sentenced to three years in a Canadian Correctional Facility. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry and to provide a DNA sample.

The New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members from the Saint John Police Force and the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force. The RCMP’s Digital Forensic Services Unit and members from the Northeast District RCMP assisted with the ongoing investigation.
