Bloodvein  — UPDATE – Bloodvein RCMP continue to search for suspect in shots fired

On November 20, 2023, the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU) deployed to Bloodvein First Nation to assist with locating and arresting Byron Duck. Byron Duck was WANTED on a warrant for more than 20 offences in relation to a shooting that occurred on November 6 and 7, 2023, in the community. He was also WANTED on a Canada Wide Warrant for being Unlawfully at Large (violating conditions of release).

MIVOAU, with the assistance of Bloodvein RCMP, safely apprehended Byron Duck at a residence on Bloodvein First Nation. He was found to be in possession of ammunition, and a loaded firearm was located in the residence.

Byron Duck was charged with:

– Being Unlawfully at Large
– Pointing a Firearm x3
– Assault with a Weapon x6
– Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x3
– Discharge Firearm Recklessly x2
– Careless Use of Firearm x2
– Mischief x2
– Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
– Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Order
– Disobeying a Court Order

Byron Duck was remanded into custody.


On November 7, 2023, at approximately 1:05 am, Bloodvein RCMP responded to a report of shots fired outside a residence on Bloodvein First Nation.

It was reported that a known male showed up outside a residence, fired shots, and fled.

The male suspect then went to a second residence and more shots were fired.
No one was physically injured in either incident.

Officers immediately attended and made extensive patrols in the community but did not locate the suspect.
A number of RCMP resources have been deployed to the area including the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, and are actively searching for the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Byron Duck. He is described as 5’9″, 150 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. He is currently WANTED on a Canada wide warrant for being Unlawfully at Large (violating conditions of release).

He is considered ARMED and DANGEROUS. Do NOT APPROACH and call police if seen.

RCMP are continuing to ask residents to be vigilant, be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the Bloodvein RCMP.
