It’s Halloween Eve and Saskatchewan RCMP reminds everyone to creep it safe while trick-or-treating. Here’s how:
Scarefully design your costume: Make sure masks and other accessories don’t obstruct sight, and that costumes don’t pose a tripping risk. Consider adding reflective tape or a glow stick to costumes or carrying a flashlight.
Carve out a plan: Discuss trick-or-treating rules with kids before they leave the house. For older kids, arrange a route and meeting/check-in times and places.
#SquadGhouls: Never trick or treat alone – children should be accompanied by an adult or, for older kids, a group of friends.
Use gourd street sense: Stay on sidewalks and cross roads only at intersections or crosswalks when trick-or-treating.
Bone appetit: Check over children’s candy hauls before they dive in.
Watch out for little monsters: If you’re driving, please be aware that excited kids may not have pedestrian safety at the top of their minds. Slow down and pay attention, especially in residential neighbourhoods.

Investigative Recap
October 19 to 21: A traffic initiative targeting impaired drivers resulted in four people arrested with outstanding warrants, more than 31 vehicles impounded and multiple drivers charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) and Loon Lake RCMP partnered with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol of the Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Branch to proactively patrol rural highways in Northern Saskatchewan.
Over 250 vehicles were stopped as part of this initiative spanning from Onion Lake to Pierceland, Saskatchewan.
Here is a summary of what our officers found:
- 4 drivers were arrested in relation to outstanding warrants;
- 23 license suspensions were issued for testing positive for THC (on an approved screening device);
- 5 licence suspensions were issued for failing an alcohol roadside screening device test;
- 5 drivers charged under the Criminal Code for having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood and higher;
- 31 vehicles were impounded (for driver’s license suspensions related to cannabis and alcohol);
- 2 drivers with provincial licence suspensions;
- 2 drivers charged under the Criminal Code for driving while disqualified;
- 62 tickets were issued for various other offences (ie: for speeding, distracted driving, misuse of seatbelts);
- 15 of the above tickets issued were for open alcohol in a motor vehicle;
- 103 warnings were issued (ie: vehicle equipment regulations like mud flaps, burnt out headlights, cracked windshields);
- 13 vehicle inspections were issued to have various defects repaired to make the vehicle safe for the road again; and
- 1 license suspension for failing a standard field sobriety test. The driver was under the influence of a Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant – suspected methamphetamine
“In CTSS our main focus is traffic safety enforcement, particularly targeting impaired driving; however, we do also come across individuals with outstanding warrants during the course of our duties. We arrested four individuals with outstanding warrants during this initiative, which ultimately will help make Saskatchewan communities safer,” says Cpl. Blair De Bruin of CTSS. “During one traffic stop, officers determined the driver, who initially provided a false identification, had outstanding warrants for arrest. They also located and seized a firearm and knife from the vehicle. During a second stop, it was determined the driver didn’t have a license and was in possession of a prohibited device, an extended ammunition round magazine.”
October 19: At approximately 1:30 p.m. Nipawin RCMP received a report of a robbery on 2nd Street East in Nipawin.
Investigation determined two females and one male approached the victim, threatened them with a knife and stole their wallet. The victim did not report injuries to police. A male later used the victim’s accounts to make purchases at a local business. Investigators have not yet determined if it is the same male who stole the wallet from the victim.

October 24: Gravelbourg RCMP: male charged in relation to June rollover

October 26: Estevan RCMP respond to fatal collision on Highway #39
October 27: Officers from Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and Prince Albert RCMP were conducting proactive patrols on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. They observed a parked vehicle which had been reported as stolen to Prince Albert RCMP earlier that day. Investigation determined the driver was in a nearby residence. Officers obtained a warrant to enter the house and arrested five occupants without incident. Three were later released without charges.
As a result of investigation, 31-year-old Jack Ermine is charged with one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code. He was also arrested on four warrants from Prince Albert RCMP and Prince Albert Police Service.
20-year-old Shaylee Moosehunter was arrested on a warrant from Prince Albert RCMP for breach of probation.
Jack Ermine is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on October 30, 2023. Shaylee Moosehunter is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on November 22, 2023.
