RCMP on the Northern Peninsula took two impaired drivers off the roads in the last week.
Rocky Harbour RCMP officers patrolling the highway near Parsons Pond on the afternoon of October 26, 2023 noticed a vehicle operating with significant external damage. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle showed signs of impairment. A roadside breath test was administered and the 48-year-old male driver was arrested for impaired driving. Further samples at the detachment confirmed the impairment. Police also ticketed the driver for operating the vehicle without valid mandatory insurance.
Shortly after noon on October 28, 2023, a 41-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving by St. Anthony RCMP, as a result of a tip from the public. The driver was located showing signs of alcohol impairment, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. He was returned to the detachment where further samples confirmed his impairment.
Both drivers were released from custody and are set to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving. Both vehicles in these separate incidents were seized and impounded. Both drivers were also issued license suspensions.
