Source: Royal Canadian Mounted Police

On October 26, 2023, at approximately 12:00 pm, an officer with the Ste Rose du Lac RCMP responded to the Ebb and Flow First Nation on a report of a stolen pickup truck.

With assistance from numerous community members who provided tips, officers located the stolen vehicle on Provincial Road 278 and a traffic stop was initiated. The pickup truck failed to stop for police and due to public safety concerns, a pursuit was not initiated.

The officers provided the suspect vehicle description to officers in Amaranth, Neepawa as well as with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) in Sandy Bay.

Within a short period of time, Amaranth RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious pickup truck, at a property in the RM of Alonsa, where the driver was looking for fuel. The licence plate was provided to police and the truck was confirmed to be stolen from Glenella.

Officers, who were now conducting patrols in the area, located the suspect vehicle on Road 115 N in the RM of Alonsa and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle continued driving on towards Highway 50.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified as a 26-year-old male from Sandy Bay, who was wanted for several firearms-related offences.

The suspect vehicle attempted to evade officers by driving into a field off of Road 116 N where it became stuck in the mud due to the wet conditions. The driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, fled on foot.

With the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and a drone unit from the MFNPS, the suspect was tracked to a marsh where, with the assistance of a community member, officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

The 26-year-old male, who was not physically injured, was treated on scene by EMS for hypothermia and taken into police custody.

Ste Rose du Lac RCMP continue to investigate.
