Springfield — Large cache of weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition seized in Springfield, PEI

Prince District RCMP along with RCMP Provincial General Investigation Services (GIS) officers seized 19 weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and laid several charges against a 33-year-old Springfield, PEI man.

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023 Prince District RCMP and RCMP Provincial GIS officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Route 2 in Springfield. During the search of the home, 17 shotguns and rifles, along with 2 restricted hand guns, were found. Officers also found thousands of rounds of ammunition and an ammunition press. Many of the weapons were loaded and not stored safely.

Jason Gordon Justin Peters has been charged with several offences including:

  • Two counts of uttering threats,
  • Unsafe storage of firearms and storage of firearms contrary to regulations,
  • Unauthorized possession of loaded restricted firearms, and,
  • Unauthorized possession of restricted firearms with readily available ammunition.

“This investigation highlights the great work being done by our RCMP Members on the Island to enhance the safety of our communities,” says Acting Commanding Officer, PEI RCMP, Superintendent Kevin Lewis. “This is a significant seizure of weapons and ammunition, randomly placed throughout a home and easily accessible. This seizure of firearms greatly contributes to making the Island a safer place,” adds Lewis.

Peters remains in custody until a court appearance.
