Gods Lake Narrows — Gods Lake Narrows RCMP respond to fire at former band office

On October 23, 2023 at approximately 1:30pm, Gods Lake Narrows RCMP responded to a report of two males causing a disturbance at the former band office. It was reported that one male was armed with a weapon and threatening to light the former band office on fire.

When officers arrived on scene, smoke was already coming from the building, which was a supply storage site and contained historical records. The fire was extinguished by local fire personnel and water trucks, however, is estimated to be a total loss.

With the assistance of Chief and Council, officers were able to identify two suspects.

39-year-old Delmar Hastings, of Gods Lake Narrows, was arrested and charged with Arson – damage to property and Utter threats to property. He is currently in custody but awaiting a remand hearing.

45-year-old Erin Kanabee, of Crane River First Nation, was arrested and charged with Arson – damage to property, Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and Possession of incendiary material. He was released on an undertaking and will appear in court on January 10, 2024.
