On October 19, 2023, at approximately 8:10 pm, Island Lake RCMP responded to a boat collision on Island Lake, between Stevenson Island and Garden Hill First Nation.
It was reported the two boats collided approximately 30 feet from shore, and both drivers went into the water. They both were swimming towards shore, when one went under and wasn’t seen again.
The 44-year-old boat operator who made it to shore was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Immediately a search began for the other driver, a 51-year-old male, which continued into the night.
This morning the search continued with community members from Stevenson Island, Garden Hill First Nation and St. Theresa Point First Nation, and at approximately 8:35 am, the body of the male, was pulled from the water.
Island Lake RCMP continue to investigate along with assistance from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
