Clarenville — Traffic Services East and Clarenville RCMP arrest two impaired drivers this weekend

RCMP Traffic Services East and Clarenville RCMP took two impaired drivers off the roads this weekend.

On Friday, September 29, 2023, RCMP Traffic Services East received multiple reports of an erratic driver on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Doe Hills area near Deep Bight. After a short patrol, officers located the suspected vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The male driver, visiting the province from the United States, exhibited signs of impairment. The driver failed a roadside breath test, was transported to the detachment for further testing and provided breath samples that were above the legal limit. The man was arrested, his vehicle was impounded and he is scheduled to appear in court in Clarenville in November 2023 to face charges of impaired operation.

On Sunday, October 1, 2023, just before noon, while on patrol, Clarenville RCMP observed a suspected impaired driver on Route 230 near Lethbridge and conducted a traffic stop. The male driver exhibited signs of impairment and alcohol was present in the vehicle. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving. At the detachment, the man provided further breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit. His license was suspended, his vehicle was impounded and he was released to appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
