On September 28, 2023, at approximately 3:00 am, Cross Lake RCMP were on patrol when they were flagged down by a pedestrian who had seen an assault taking place behind the local elementary school. Police attended immediately and located a male assaulting a female.
The 17-year-old male was taken into custody. The 15-year-old female was rushed to the Nursing Station with significant injuries, including stab wounds. She was then transported to Winnipeg hospital for treatment.
When arrested, the male was found to have a knife on his person. He is facing charges and has been released pending a court date.
The female victim remains in stable condition.
