In partnership with NL Health Services, Mary’s Harbour RCMP marked Suicide Prevention Awareness Day on Saturday, September 16, 2023, in Port Hope Simpson with a number of community activities suitable for all ages.
Opened to the residents of the Mary’s Harbour RCMP Detachment area, the day started with a guided hike to the summit of Blow Me Down Mountain. Following the hike, residents were invited to Bayside Academy for a lunchtime community BBQ with cake and refreshments. The RCMP sponsored the BBQ as part of RCMP150 Anniversary events. After lunch, youth participated in a bicycle rodeo with prizes, a community parade, face painting and rock painting. To end the day, residents were invited to participate in a basketball game at the school.
It was a day full of fun activities that were enjoyed by young and old alike, raising awareness of suicide prevention and community support.
