Twenty-nine-year-old Ryan Keats of Bonavista is facing multiple charges following an investigation by Bonavista RCMP into a rash of recent thefts in the community.

On the evening of September 3, 2023, Keats was arrested in relation to a number of reports of thefts from vehicles in the town. At the time, he was on court-imposed conditions, including a daily curfew, after being arrested on August 31, 2023, and charged in relation to a theft at a home in Bonavista. A curfew check was conducted by police on September 1. Keats was not in compliance.

He appeared in court earlier this week, was held in custody and will appear in court this afternoon to face the following additional charges:

  • Failure to comply with an undertaking – two counts
  • Theft under $5000.00
  • Trespass at night

As a result of the investigation, Bonavista RCMP recovered a number of stolen items that were stored at a vacated property. Those items have since been returned to their rightful owners.

Bonavista RCMP has increased patrols in the area and is working with the Town of Bonavista to address this rash of crimes. Bonavista RCMP urges anyone who has been a victim of any recent property crimes to make a report to the detachment. This will assist police in bringing those responsible to justice, as well as ensuring any stolen items recovered are returned to the rightful owners.
