A 14-year-old youth has been charged in connection with firearm offences in Moncton, N.B.
On August 28, 2023, at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of an individual pointing a firearm at a group of people on Seaman Street and Mill Street in Moncton, N.B. When police arrived on scene, the individual attempted to leave the scene on foot and threw their backpack when they saw police arrive. Police quickly contained the area and were able to arrest them without incident. No one was injured during the event.
The RCMP Police Dog Services Unit was called to assist and located the firearm and the backpack that had been dropped during the incident.
On August 30, a 14-year-old youth, who cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested for pointing a firearm, resisting arrest, and possession of a prohibited weapon. He was released pending a future court date.
The investigation is ongoing.
