Headline: UPDATE: Victim of Canning Town murder named

Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager in Canning Town have named the victim.

While formal identification awaits, next of kin have been informed and officers are confident the deceased is 17-year-old Lord Promise Nkenda, known as Promise, who was from the Newham area.

Details of the outcome of a post-mortem examination await.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information following the murder.

An investigation was launched after officers were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly after 20:00hrs on Wednesday, 14 February to reports of a male suffering stab injuries on Goldwing Close, E16.

Officers attended and Promise was pronounced dead at the scene at 20:38hrs.

A car was later found abandoned in Freemasons Road near the junction with Victoria Dock Road, E16, and officers believe this was linked to the earlier incident.

The car – a black BMW estate – had been stolen from Vaughan Road, E15 around two hours prior to Promise’s murder.

Detective Inspector Perry Benton, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, leads the investigation. He said: “While work continues to establish the motive and exact sequence of events which led to Promise’s murder, it appears he was the victim of a sustained and targeted attack.

“I would continue to appeal to anyone who has information that could assist this investigation to come forward and speak to police

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a black BMW estate car in and around the area of Goldwing Close in the time prior to the murder.”

There have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries continue.
